You belong. You matter. You are enough.

Children and Youth

Mission Statement

The children and youth ministry at First United Methodist Church of Mount Holly engages and welcomes everyone while surrounding kids of all ages with unconditional love, as well as showing and sharing the unwavering love Christ has for them as they grow on their spiritual journey, encouraging kids to share what they have witnessed with their friends and community.

Core Values

  • Love: We show compassion, concern and care for others because we first have been loved by Christ.
  • Trust: We create an atmosphere of acceptance in which the expression of honest questions and minority opinions is valued, where kids are comfortable speaking openly.
  • Joy: We live with a contagious excitement about our faith that draws others to become a part of our church family.
  • Safety: We provide trustworthy adult leaders for all children and youth and a welcoming environment in which children and youth feel safe asking questions and seeking support and guidance.

Meet our teachers!

Yvonne Vine, Rita Brooks, Karen Maluk & Danielle Gsell

Yvonne Vine
Yvonne loves working with children and youth, especially teaching and sharing God’s love for them. In the past, she has lead youth groups, taught Sunday school, lead Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She feels called to serve in Children & Youth Ministry because she loves children. Her favorite book of the bible is James because this book stresses serving with works and explains that teachers are held to a higher standard and teaching youth is very important to spread the Gospel.

Rita Brooks
Rita has been a member of First UMC since childhood and currently serves on the Administrative Council as the chair of the Finance Committee. Rita works as a bookkeeper, property manager, and real estate agent on LBI as well as for the Mt. Holly Fire District. In addition, Rita loves to continue learning through multiple Bible studies, and singing with our church choir and America’s Keswick, a small church in Gloucester, for special cantatas. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God. She enjoys serving in Children and Youth Ministry because she is still a kid at heart, loves to learn from kids, and loves sharing with church family as we grow our personal relationships with God.

Karen Maluk
Karen has been a member of First UMC of Mount Holly for 10 years, where she has found a lot of joy and fellowship through her involvement in worship and the United Methodist Women. She has been married for 43 years and has four children. She has previously worked with children in both daycare and in elementary school. Karen’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 1:3, “I thank my God for every remembrance of you.”  She likes serving in Children and Youth Ministry every chance she is able because it is truly a blessing to her.

Danielle Gsell
Danielle has been a member for most of her life. She and her husband met at First UMC, and they have grown closer together through Christ. In addition to serving in Children and Youth Ministry, Danielle sings in the church choir. She loves learning how to grow in her faith by connecting with new people. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” She serves in Children & Youth Ministry because she loves to watch children learn and understand that the love of God is everlasting and unconditional.
