Mark's gospel is not merely a story about Jesus, but about those who follow him. Expounding on Jewish tradition to highlight the significance of the call put forth to the first disciples, Pastor Donald explains that these ordinary fishermen were individuals who didn't make the cut, who weren't the best of the best, who didn't qualify to follow any rabbi. And yet, the Rabbi Jesus comes to them, knowing they have what it takes, believing they could be like him, and says, "Come, follow me." In the same way, Jesus calls us to himself and deems us worthy. He wouldn't call us if he didn't think we had what it takes. He wouldn't call us if He didn't think we could be like him.
